I am not that surprised at this, as prejudice and bigotry abound when it comes to nursing mothers.
But in this particular case, the ignorant person making the complaint was another woman !

If something is in my eye-line that offends me, I merely have to rotate my eyes a few degrees in either direction, and it is not longer in my eye-line. If something offends you like this, you have the option to look away. I find most peoples' table manners are absent in restaurants these days, but I wouldn't abuse someone over it - and that is the key to this. You are...

Sqad - //-H and you mikey must get over the fact that on "many" topics" people disagree with your opinions.......that doesn't make them idiots or bad people, they just have differing opinions for whatever reasons.
This is not only on AB but in life as a whole. //
I can't speak for mikey, but personally, I would not have lasted as long and enjoyed either as much - life and the AB - had I not learned to accept other opinions different from mine.
You have a different opinion from me, but I know you are not an idiot or a bad person - very few people on here are.

\\\Sorry but its boobs the baby needs feeding get over it!
Just because you have a baby does not mean you need to stay at home until it turns 18!! \\\
Over 18.....come on Islay you can do better than that.
No, it's not JUST boobs. Gastro-colic reflex...Pavlov's dogs....when you feed a baby there is a tendency for it to regurgitate (Vomit), *** which is often smelly in babies.....fart, belch......fine all normal biological processes but unseemly to some people, particularly whilst eating in a restaurant.

Naomi - // In this instance that doesn’t appear to have happened. //
The crux is - it 'doesn't appear ...'
Now I will take an educated guess that a feeding mother is not keen on making an exhibition out of what is an intimate time with her baby, so the perceived notion that this mother performed the equivalent of a high-wire circus act is probably wide of the mark.
Can you tell if a woman is feeding, however discreetly she is doing it? Yes you can, but you are not compelled to watch her do it, you can always concentrate on your own lunch and your own companions' conversation instead.

If you wind a new-born baby properly with frequent pauses in feeding, they don't vomit, and their gas is odour-free until they start on solids, and burping is not the end of the world.
Did you have babies - or fox terriers?

Sqad...I concur with Andy here.....I don't think you are a idiot either !
But why is not acceptable for me voice an opinion on this subject ? Others have agreed with me on this topic, but I am the only ones who is getting stick for speaking out ! Not that it bothers with me a bit.
But some have suggested that perhaps the woman should have retreated to somewhere else, the ladies loo perhaps, in order to feed her baby.....not terribly hygienic I would have thought.

A-H....c'mon....life isn't like that, if something offends you and you know that someone may have an impediment or something which may cause controversy.......you do it MORE.
Woman comes in with a low cut dress....your eyes tend to follow.
A man with a large nose.....you tend to concentrate on.
a woman feeding her baby on the breast....if it offends you....you tend to watch.
I wouldn't like to eat my lunch, concentrating on the fact that i mustn't watch the mother and baby feeding.

Sqad - we must agree to differ on this.
If I see something that is offending me, I look away, it's that simple.
You do not - we are different in our approaches.
But - to return to the point of the argument - I would not abuse someone for offending me if what they are doing is not obviously and intentionally offensive - and in my view breastfeeding is not.
I would have accepted the offer to move to another table, not refused and continued to sit in close proximity so that my offence was not alleviated in any way - that is just not adult behaviour.

ummm - //Andy....you're wrong on that one. I had a pukey baby. Winding makes no difference //
Fair enough, but if your baby is ill enough to projectile vomit over a fifty-yard radius, you wouldn't be bringing her out, so the chances are, if she brings a bit of milk back, the mother is prepared and deals with it.
But that detracts from the point - the mother was not abused for her baby vomiting, she was abused for feeding her, and that is wrong.

A-H......you conveniently missed out the "crapping"...I did type "ch1t" but it was starred out....that smells in babies...solid food or liquid.
\\\Did you have babies - or fox terriers?\\\
I didn't have either.......the wife did.
mikey....off course you can have AND voice your opinions, but you constantly suggest that ABers with alternative views somehow need "their heads seeing to"....if you know what i mean.

(("She kept mouthing off in front of her friends and when my partner asked what her problem was, she said she didn't want to see my breasts when she was eating her dinner."))
If that is true then the Mother was obviously not being discreet, it can easily be done without flashing your bits everywhere.
