Since the dawn of time multiculturalism has not worked in any country, how can Britain be any different?

interesting reading.
I'm afraid it is true that any discussion about this subject quickly degenerates into open season on Islam from some. Even if were true that Islamic culture is somehow 'different' it doesn't negate the whole value of the mixing of different cultures. We've even had people here saying things like 'that's not what is meant by culture' . It is frustrating even if predictable.
allen, I’m neither an idiot nor a liar – and I don’t think anyone has mentioned ‘no-go areas’, but there are areas where I would be reluctant to walk – certainly after dark. Leyton, Tower Hamlets, Newham – just a few examples.

not so allen....
"Irish Travellers are not apparent in such numbers." Well, they are in enough numbers around here and no, they do not integrate.
237....ah, but they are nice and white, and probably Catholic !
I wouldn't say nice but yes, they are white and Catholic
Muslim areas.

mikey, as already pointed out those who follow Islam come in all shades and sizes.

allen, not true..i used to live in and around london in the 70's and early 80's never felt uneasy anywhere in the night..never, but i do now
it's down to certain cultures..and i know some ab participants know what i mean, call me a racist or paranoid, i know what i see and feel now..where i never felt it before, ok there were gangs, but unless you were looking for trouble, you had no problem.

fender - If the attitudes of the snipers on here who bang on about how dreadful Muslims are on every day with a 'y' in it, then I don't really think you can blame them for not wanting to integrate - I wouldn't either!

Chicken or the egg?

I worked in Brixton in the 90's and had a brilliant time in the local pub, the locals were easy to get on with they were predominantly black people, no idea what their religion was didn't ask.

I also worked in Bradford in the 90's and was in the main ignored and when I say ignored I mean ignored. They looked and dressed like Muslims ... but I didn't ask so maybe they weren't.

As to the Q ... If I'm honest I don't know whether to say yay or neigh..
I have friends from parents of African and West Indian backgrounds but they are just like me other than skin colour. They live in the same villages and mix well.

The Muslims I know which mainly consist of the two local curry houses all drive back to Bradford after the curry house shuts as does the Muslim chap who ones the local tile shop.

Last week I fitted a pair of french doors for a friend of a friend , he was Muslim chap.
I picked up the French doors from his current house in Sheffield and took them to his new house in Huddersfield. Whilst chatting away he told me why he decided to move ...
'you saw the street didn't you ... they're too Muslim for me'

A refreshingly honest assessment of his former street.

Emmie....but I wonder how many of them could be mistaken for Irish travellers ?
Nice to see you posting Fender. ;)
i am in agreement with Naomi, those areas are off limits, where once i wouldn't have worried walking around now they make me feel uncomfortable.
No, I don't think it has. I concluded this about 20 years ago. A huge point is that all people in one country must come under the same law and accept the same rules. I accepted and worked within French Law (weird and - I think - awful as it is in some respects) when I lived there. Given that acceptance that it is up to the incomers to integrate then we can all rub along. Our problem is that far too many mass together and do not wish to accept British Law and Customs and wish to establish their own societies. I.M.O..

that is how many see it, not some on a/b but out in the wider world.
No.
