So you can't buy your bottle of cheap plonk from that till - hardly going to die out of are you!!

Sell the bottle of cheap plonk from that till - hardly going to die out of are you!!
Ot could be argued that ALDI is a caring employer that takes account of the wishes of staff. As long as ALDI feels it can accommodate requests whether it be for dispensation from serving alcohol, parental leave, part time requests, or by employing people with disabilities who may not be able to work as fast but otherwise do an excellent job then that's up to them. If the service suffers and customers are unhappy then they may have to rethink

Unlike being a Muslim, being disabled is not a choice, so it hardly compares in bolstering your argument here does it?
They'll probably come out with a bargain that cannot be beaten by any of the other supermarkets for the alkies out there and have them running back forgetting their huffs and woes as they scramble to get their knocked down fixes.

Someone said something similar earlier ... they're not.
I don't see it matters , andy - I wasn't saying choice was an issue- clearly it isn't for disability. I'm saying how ASDA uses it's staff is an issue for them. If we don't like their service or think they are bowing to pressure then sure, it's fine to go elswhere. I assume ALDi feel on balance they can accommodate this employee and feel that is in their interests to do so rather than have an unhappy employee or a leaver who may in other respects be a great employee.
But as I intimated before, if it were my store I wouldn't agree to such a request unless I could be sure it wouldn't cause resentment among other staff, cause a precedent for other requests such as not selling sugary drinks or reduce my ability to deploy staff effectively at peak times and affect service
There is no doubt that this situation isn't ideal and ALDI are handling it the best way they can at the moment - I feel they may take internal steps to their policies to prevent a repeat of such negative (from some quarters) publicity.
Overall they may not be caring, talbot- but they seem to be for this employee, otherwise why are they agreeing to it?
Looking at it now it was probably a constructed business decision as yes they might have angered a few alkies who will no doubt come back for their knock down booze but now they've advertised that they're very muslim friendly so now will probably have hoards of muslims who previously kept away now voting aldi with their pound notes. Very clever psychological marketing when you see what they've done there.
Well now we have descended into some sort of attempt at alternative comedy (which isn't going well) I'll bid you adieu.
FF @16:28..its that 'not got time'..do as I'm told attitude that made this country what it is today!!

Good question.
I wouldn't walk out and never go back, but I'd be annoyed if a muslin refused to serve me a bottle of wine in a supermarket and would make my feelings known to the manager.
If I had a £100 worth of groceries in my basket including a bottle of brandy and refused to be served by a muslim & their religious views, I would leave the trolley & go to lidl.
“Ot could be argued that ALDI is a caring employer that takes account of the wishes of staff.”

Yes it could be argued thus. But it should not have to be. Alcoholic beverages are part and parcel of life in the UK. Anybody working in the hospitality trade or much of the retail trade should expect to have to handle it. If Muslims have such sensitive proclivities that they cannot put a bottle of gin through a till then a job at Aldi (and possibly a life in the UK) is not for them.

I’m with TWR on this one. If Aldi wants to fanny its customers about by pandering to these ridiculous ideas then they deserve to lose customers.
What about a bit of perspective here?. They stopped checking alcohol through at one till. They did not close the till, and other tills were checking alcohol.
Perspective - nice try Danny.
Perspective?

Can I assume that Mamya and danny do not shop at Aldi and have no idea how it is run?
Do any of the major retailers not allow muslim employees to refuse to handle haram products?
