Another shooting in London. It seems to me that hardly a day goes by without there being a shooting or a stabbing in a part of London. What can be done about this, is there nothing the Mayor can do? Stronger sentences for when they are caught perhaps?

Talbot //Thank God a BBC link was added ... had no clue what this was about from the OP// Did my link not work for you?
As expected, this has gone on to the subject of immigration and that isn't even mentioned in my link. I was just asking if there is someone, somewhere who would have the powers to do something about this.
Oh I see, your off out to look for them! Good man.
Barsel , the power to do something about what?

The power to do something about the amount of violence in London and Manchester (thanks PP) and anywhere else in the country.
I'm not so sure. If that were the case then you'd need to account for examples of people from those lifestyles who have managed to leave it and build relatively normal lives. I don't have a specific policy recommendation off the top of my head, but if I were asked to solve this problem (and dumb enough to accept), I would look for ways to make that the path of least resistance for as many people as possible.
d. They know he's black.

Whereas with the perpetrators of the gun crime......
no it is droogz
it always is

You posited:

"Throw all the money, education and opportunities at them that you care to, you will still not alter their in bred life style of drugs, violent crime, knives and guns."

You've hit on something that I observed when watch a couple of tv programmes recently - The Moorside (about the Shannon Matthews case) and Boy Blue (about the killing of Rhys Jones).

I think you may have a point that the environment (family, housing, education) has a massive bearing on how someone turns out in life, but I don't believe this is inbred. If, for example you take a child out of a terrible environment and place them in one where achievement and attainment are key drivers, that child (whatever their familial background) is much more likely to do well.

I disagree that it's simply breeding - if it were, every single child in those areas would be involved in drugs, knives and gangs. And that really isn't the case.

/// It's the very end of the criminal process. At the point that someone is stopped and searched and found to be armed, they have relinquished the responsibility of being an upstanding citizen. The seeds would've been planted way before that. ///

Perhaps so, but at lease it would take another gun/knife and their owner off our streets.

/// Would it not make more sense to go for a holistic approach where the roots of the downward spiral are tackled? ///

What are you suggesting, education? we have already tried that.
Opportunities? are we not all given a clean slate from the start, how we conduct our lives and grasp our opportunities is up to us.
I take it that you didn't turn to a life of crime, so why do these potential killers choose to?
Question Author
I know that it isn't always the way these people have been raised, as sometimes they come from what you might describe as a 'good family'. So where does it start to go wrong? Should the parents of the ones who turn out bad be punished? This isn't one of my ideas, just a question.
You seriously don't know why young black people, turn to a life of crime?
//are we not all given a clean slate from the start//

Not really, no.
^^^Has to be the most naive thing I've ever heard AOG say and demonstrates his profound lack of understanding of the problem.

To be fair to Talbot I think he was being a little sarcastic towards Mikey's need to post a BBC link (his usual 'hymn sheet').
ZM - please tell us why black people turn to crime.

Not really, no.

Why in what way were you born differently from the millions of other human beings on earth?
