I've now seen the footage of him after the incident. If he had taken no alcohol since the night before and that's how he was at 4pm, I shudder to think what he was like the night before. It might explain why he was in custody for ten hours. Most drink drivers who are a small amount over the limit are released fairly quickly - certainly within a couple of hours or so.
In the footage on the Daily Mail website, he looks like he has no real idea of where he is. Didn't his mother notice the state he was in?

He looks like someone who has had a nasty crash, and is in shock, which is what he was. Fortunately, the court will deal with the physical evidence and not try and work out Mr McPartin's state of mind based on a photograph.

He might not have had that much alcohol.

If he'd taken a moderate or small amount of alcohol and mixed with strong painkillers, it can seriously impair coordination, judgement, etc.

I once made the mistake of having Codeine and wine within a short space of time... Never again!

/// it is a pretty safe bet that he was more than 3x the limit when he was pulled over///

Pulled over?? . . . . . . I thought he hit two other cars and came to a grinding halt.
//His mum has no control over him what so ever and she may have had no idea he went out in his car with the keys etc..//

She was in the car with him.....

He doesn't look shocked, he looks hammered ( and yes I have personally seen the difference), also if you choose to ride in a car with someone who is drunk then you are equally culpable.
He looks shocked to me. I suppose knowing it's going to be plastered all over the papers wouldn't have helped things.

If you can tell the difference between someone who is in shock and someone who is intoxicated (and in this case Mr McPartlin is possibly both simultaneously) merely by looking at a still image, then I suggest you should get a job with the police - they could use a talent like that, since none of them have it.
Spath and I have cross-posted, but again, agreement on the situation.
He'd just been out walking his dog in Richmond Park. Much as he looks ratted, I can't imagine him staggering around the park in that state.
A-H - it wasn't a still image. It's a video

Andy, it's not a still image, it's a short video; and that is what I based my earlier comment on. I stand by it.

That was a serious crash. I've been in a minor crash and it shook me up.
Still image?

Once again I have to question whether some posters bother to open the links provided.
