They've arrested a man. Hopefully it is the right man.
Question Author
As I have said earlier...they have charged a man.
He is in court today.
I agree that the police should work harder in certain cases to get better descriptions. Often they leave a lot to be desired. Both your example and especially I would have thought mine, leave a lot to be desired. But that is the issue, not political correctness. And anyway if a victim insists on his or her description there’s not a lot the police can do. They also have to be wary of leading
I hope it's the right man because his name ,age and address have already been made public.
Talbot makes a point which a lot of people have missed or ignored. When the police asks for a description and, for example, is told "tall", they don't just put that in a description, they follow up with "how tall?", "as tall as me?" etc. Wouldn't an experienced interviewer follow up to discover just what is meant by "tanned"?
Question Author
Anything to say on the CCTV image, ich?

Re CCTV You’re asking the wrong person (sigh)

By the way if the victim says “tanned” I’d have thought that causes a problem. And possibly some mirth. If the police then say “do you not mean ‘foreign’ and the victim says “no, tanned” what can they do?
We weren’t there so it’s impossible to know.
What I reject as daft is the idea that the police changed the description. If there are noble attempts at “social cohesion” going on then this thread, and the countless counter examples I mentioned above would suggest they’re fighting a losing battle!
Question Author
Why do you not have an opinion on why the police didn't release the CCTV image until the day after they had it?
Have you considered the possibility that they had some leads and while they followed them up didn't want to alert the suspect or friends wo might protect him. The police have operational reasons sometimes for not giving away too much info. They caught the guy apparently so maybe we should thank them for that and not try to read things into their methods
Indeed. What is the point in speculating on why the police didn’t release the CCTV footage? I have not a clue. If you are so worked about it contact them and ask.

No-one except Talbot, in the wording of his OP - or have you missed that?
Naomi - // Nice try, Andy-Hughes, but all that demonstrates in your ongoing inability to comprehend. Try reading my posts again. //

Sorry, I forgot, it's never your fault for posting in a way that is open to interpretation, it's always my fault for simply being to dense to understand your post in the first place.

I must try harder - and I know you will agree with me, you usually do!
Talbot - // You don't know that but regardless as I have said earlier an experienced copper should be able to talk to the victim and get a better description. //

You are willoing to concede that there are aspects of this case that ich doesn't know about, which is absolutely right, but you seem unwilling to accept that you don't know any more than anyone else, it is just you who is taking two and two and making twenty-two, and then others seem to agree with your conclusions for reasons I have yet to fathom.

// I will ask you as I have asked others...why so long to get the CCTV image out? //

An as one of the 'others', I am delighted to answer your question about the CCTV image - I have absolutely no idea why, but then again, neither does anyone else on here.

And as I pointed out - I am perfectly happy to concede that I don't know that information, what I am less willing to do is follow your path - and appoint myself as the Spanish Inquisition and demand answers from people who have no way of being able to answer your pointless questions.

No. FF
I considered calling him 'tanned' bloody stupid.
Did you consider he may have friends who would protect him?

What?

More ropey conclusions to back up Talbot's shaky premise - except for this point of course -

'Height' is a variable, so the question "How tall?" is perfectly valid.

'Tanned' is an absolute, someone is tanned or they are not, so the question "How tanned?" is invalid.

If you are confused, try re-reading, it should make sense if you stare at it for long enough.
Your odd way of using big gaps between some paragraphs and none between others makes your posts difficult to follow, Talbot.
I've no idea whether your last two lines are addressed to me.

Did I mean ...
Fast Food?
Fast Forward?
French Fries?

Or fiction factory?

Question Author
andy...I'm addressing this to you (just to be clear)
How long did you stare at the OP to come up with the following

Terms like ‘tanned’ are employed in order to minimise anti-immigrant sentiment.

I personally think you had to be ever so slightly mad to come up with that nonsense.
