Just as a matter of pedantry, Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (as well as
http and html). The Internet already existed, eg an early version was the ARPANET from the US. None of which devalues his achievement, but we may as well get the achievement itself correct.
I'm still not sure how people are measuring "best", though. There are certainly several metrics by which we aren't the "best" -- for example, Scandinavian countries usually come top in measures such as HDI, GDP/head, equality, Citzens' contentment etc -- although in most that I'm aware of the UK does pretty well compared to most countries.
