Schools are clearly not a babysitting service. 14 weeks off annual leave, who gets that?... even teachers work longer that school hours.
From the OP, it depends entirely on what was said. You wouldn't deliberately offend a friend, relative... someone in your personal life. But, when it comes to education- if he was accurate and truthful- fair enough.
It would be awful to get to a point where we can validly "offend" some people, but not others- depending on how loud or violent they might be.
pixie //it depends entirely on what was said//
I don't think that it is anything to do with what was said.It is the caricatures of Muhammad that are causing offence.
I’m pretty tired of all the understanding and support these people are generating. Virtue signalling at its most sickening. The fact is no one in this country should need to go into hiding in fear of his life for showing a cartoon - and no one in this country should feel justified in forcing anyone to do that. If these people want to live here it’s high time they accepted that other people have different ideas. This horrendous culture needs addressing openly and honestly. It is barbaric.
It shouldn't be, Danny, in my view. He may have been telling them exactly that. I don't honestly see how we can suggest cartoons are offensive, while at the same time describing other people as snowflakes?
so theres going to be a probe at the school, meanwhile the teacher is under threat for his life... will they probe that and the loss of his job
and any job anywhere.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-56587709

When you refer to 'these people' - is that aimed at the noisy and attention-seeking few who, as usual, generate far more interest and attention that their issue deserves, or is it aimed at the Muslim population in general?

Just curious.

When a teacher is suspended, there is always a full investigation by the governing body, and suspension while that investigation is carried out is standard practice.

Threats to life are an issue for the police, not the school.

And the loss of the teacher's post and his inability to find employment anywhere else are both speculation - the teacher has yet to be dismissed, so the question of his future employment does not actually exist.

That's the sort of spin the media like to put on things - not really a sensible basis for a sound debate though.
andy, i can bet they will find him guilty oh sorry i mean not following school guidance or asking the gov nahs.. kangaroo court to placate
the local ethnics and prevent anymore unrest in front of the school
and of course there own lives nad jobs, specualtion of course but will see.
AH, it’s aimed at anyone who thinks their beliefs override the freedoms of the rest of society.
Education should be about accuracy and truth. Unless he was lying about something- i can't see any reason to suspend him.
An attempt to placate the complainers.
Truth should never be illegal or unwelcome though.
Some posters mentioned cartoons but there is a difference between a cartoons and caricatures which is what was shown to the class.
Your truth isn’t the complainers’ truth. The school knows that. Their staff member and his wife and four children have gone into hiding in fear of their lives. That’s the truth.
No excuses Danny. This is not acceptable - ever!!
Not really, Danny. It would make more sense to teach children how to respond appropriately to things they disagree with. There is another thread on that. Disagreement is one thing, violence is another.
I know, naomi. Totally unacceptable. But the truth is the truth. Overreacting to it, doesn't change it.
As I said your truth isn’t their truth.
The truth is the truth. Faith, or opinions, are not the same.

it's being reported now that two further staff members have been suspended. because, it's alleged, they knew what the teacher was planning to do.
