Knowing what we know now, what should the West have done in response to 9/11 and other atrocities?

Please clarify your confusement,TCL.
"First the First World War,was there any need of British involvement?"

"Hitler wasnt going to invade Britain any time soon.Hitler was a Britophile,he was only interested in invading Russia."

"You are just another appeaser, ellipsis.Probably back in the 1930s you would be saying hurray for the blackshirts, hurray for that nice mr schicklegruber.Eejit"

The first two statements question the UK's involvement in the World Wars and appear to suggest we should have left Hitler to his own devices.

The third statement claims ELLIPSIS would have been an appeaser in the Thirties and you appear to be unhappy with that.

The statements appear to be contradictory.

The last thing we needed to do after 9/11 was to go looking for revenge with our gander up. Retribution is better served with a calculated, resolute, patience. We should have begun by rounding up all the exciting "new arrivals" to the Western countries and sending them back to their stans. Then making sure that we put a ring of steel around the festering places making sure that non could get out. They would then have had to do what we did centuries ago and either submit to the cruel mindless regimes or fight for their freedom. Our misguided assumption that these people are like us has unravelled, but the would be do gooders still cannot see it. Send them out there as well.
I can only hope that assumption has finally unravelled, Togo, but I have my doubts.
After decades of allowing the taliban to hide within their borders Pakistan is first to recognise the "just and legitimate" claims of the murderous terrorist fanatics. Turkey, Saudi, Iran, and France will follow shortly.
@18.30.You are still confused,TCL.What i was saying was that Britain should have(and could have)stayed outwith all these wars.We still live in a sort of island fortress.I doubt the Kaiser was interested in invading Britain and Hitler was more interested in defeating Bolshevism and the socialist Stalin and obtaining so-called Lebensraum in the East.As for Iran and Afghanistan blame the Labour Party for that particular debacle.
@1835 - and how many atrocities do you think would have happened while we displayed patience
Deary me, an interesting take on world conflict, completely at odds with reality.

Can't be long until Benito gets timetabling credit.
^^ See below.

// We should have begun by rounding up all the exciting "new arrivals" to the Western countries and sending them back to their stans.??
"Also don’t forget that the US and co didn’t just wade into Afghanistan unilaterally. They were allied with the United Islamic Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan. Who’s to say such an alliance will not re-form in the months to come."

rinse, repeat... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Alliance#Reported_plans_to_regroup_(2021)
One would hope not.
I don't know the reason - all I know is it is very sad.
//The statements appear to be contradictory.//
and therefore are complete non sequiturs

just dont go there TCL. close analysis of what is written here just aint worf it - I know - I do it everyday ....
The people who will profit most are the Chinese (CCP) who have quietly over a number of years acquired mineral rights in Afghanistan, (& all over the world) will snuggle up to the Taliban & continue on their measured path to world domination.

Slowly, slowly, catchee monkey
Nafy 17.10 , Spot on.
@22.42.Thanks,Gully.I think the first time we are in complete agreement.
What we are witnessing is the roll out of Trump’s peace agreement signed with the Taliban in February last year.

That envisage mid 2021 as total US withdrawal, leaving the door open for an Islamic regime to take over.

Not quite, gromit. Biden didn't stick to the agreement. Nice try though.
