Could this common sense approach be the answer to what must be one of the biggest infringements of a person's civil liberties?

I am not a smoker, may I add?.

Sounds too much like common sense to me. It stands no chance.
No. I much prefer the pubs smoke free.
I think a pub should have the right to choose and not have a ban forced on them... That said, I smoke and it doesn't really bother me one way or the other.
Unlike many substances tobbacco is not illegal and I defend my right to smoke. However with the aggressive anti-smoking lobbyists making me feel like a criminal I nowadays couldn't be arsed to go to a pub and be segregated into one room. I also understand non-smokers wanting a smoke free environment so wouldn't like to spoil their sanctimonious enjoyment.
what about the civil liberties of the people who dont want to inhale passive smoke?
i agree with china and im a non smoker and have been for just over a year
"what about the civil liberties of the people who dont want to inhale passive smoke? "

Those miserable, whining buggers can stay at home then. Problem solved.
I don't smoke but I am an ex smoker of 14 yrs, It doesn't bother me at all anyone smoking around me, what bothers me is the exaggerated arm flailing that non smokers all seem to do as a uniformed thing!
do they think that the pubs will start making profits if they allow smokers? even in a recession? even if cigarettes cost a fortune? even if non smokers stop going to pubs?

thats a lot of pressure on the smokers
We just came back from a weekend in Germany where it hasnt been outlawed. My husband who smokes was in his element. We went into a pub to watch a footie game -it was in the Turkish Qtr (relevent due to the strength of the cigs and the bongs they were using) and when we got outside I literally projectile vomitted
smoker will still smoke regardless of the cost cazzz ;-0)
oops -too quick there
anyway it was due entirely to the cig smoke as my husband was even struggling.I am an ex smoker -but you have to remember that if you dont smoke you arent surrounded by smoke nowadays -even OH smokes outside the house as he doesnt like the stale smell-so it was alien to my system.
Interesting how it does affect you -o and it wasnt booze I can assure you.
in theory, pubs shouldnt be struggling...afterall, they must be filled ot the rafters with all those rabid, rothing at the mouth non smokers who swore blind they'd use their local if the smoking ban was introduced......right?
You practising your ignore buton at last Geordie?
soap-boxers who have nowt to pontificate now BOO ;-0)

thing is b00 if they do an about turn the smokers will be pressured to fill the pubs to the rafters and have money flying in the till after all the moaning they have done about the ban.

the fact of the matter is that whilst supermarkets keep selling booze cheap, pubs will struggle
That'll be a yes then -phew !!!!
Will never happen. The ban is working well.

Pubs have invested a lot of money on shelters. Smokers are no longer bothered by it.

One of the biggest infringements on civil liberties - don't make me laugh.
