Have you finished the book yet Daisy? I will confess to putting everything aside to finish a book!
Tony that book about the Titanic is to do with the quality of the steel used in the building of the ship. Too much carbon I think it was in the steel, though it was the best available at the time, the cold water temperatures made it so brittle that it couldn't withstand the impact. Interesting theory, though. There is another regarding the air temperature causing a mirage which hid the iceberg from the lookouts as it "raised the horizon" or some such, it was a very interesting documentary. (she is a slowish reader)
