I am contemplating building (or having built) a raised bed. Has anyone done this in their garden. Looking for advice about what the ideal building material is - wood, blocks, sleepers?

Thanks for that link divebuddy - very interesting and lots of great ideas.
Our current raised beds are made of two layers of scaffolding boards, bought from a reclamation yard. Been in about 3 years so far and still looking good With no sign of rot.

Thanks ratty, another good idea to look at.
Sleepers n coach bolts, that's the answer.
Other half has constructed one for me of pallets ,plastic sheeting and outdoor wood stain. Cheap and v cheerful;-)
Go sturdy not flimsy!
Use tanilised, pressure treated timbers.

I made a bed, using 3 x 8ft sleeper sized timbers, one of which was cut in half to form the ends.
The corners can be joined by using galvanized corner brackets, on the insides.
Just repeat the process, if you want a higher level/s.
Had mine about 4 years now and still looking good.
I used to have a raised bed. "Bunk" I think they called it. Kept mine in the bedroom though; bit cold outside.
