piece of evidence that God exists...just one!
Have just been reading through the posts here on R&S and all I see are (tortuous) apologetics for ones own belief system. We have Theland who pleads with us to find salvation and then disappears. We have goodlife who appears incapable of thinking for himself and just copies and pastes. (typical JW from my experience) and keyplus who views the world through 'koran glasses' and cant even begin to see the world in any other way than that in which he has been brought up in.
All God believers, in my experience, seem to view unbelievers as been willfull sinners. They seem incapable of understanding that others have their own understanding of the world and that God plays no part in it because there is no EVIDENCE.
For the time being, I HAVE to be an honest atheist (or at best agnostic) because I value truth and evidence over faith (and there are so many faiths that I couldnt possibly choose one out of thousands even if I had to.)
SO...... Just one piece of evidence will suffice and then maybe I could take it from there and see if YOUR God might be the way forward.
I thank you.

naomi; //An atheist doesn't believe there is anything to be discovered.//
Are you now the spokesperson for atheists? If you want to know more on the subject I recommend you try 'Atheists, The origin of the species' by Nick Spencer, a fine exposition "lucid and fair-minded, of an emotive theme" in which he describes a wide variety of modes of atheism within the history of Christianity, which ( as I have said on another thread) was once considered to be atheistic itself in that it refused to recognize the Roman gods and the emperor.
Khandro, //Are you now the spokesperson for atheists?//

Is Nick Spencer? Odd if he is. He's a Christian.
Beautiful, humbling(me anyway), quote sandyRoe. Best answer I've heard for a Long time. (:-)
n.//Is Nick Spencer?// Well no, but I suggest he clearly knows more on the subject than you do.
Haha! Well he would, wouldn't he .... he's a Christian. ;o)
n. You've already said that, but it doesn't answer my question. He is neither a spokesperson for atheism nor for religion, but I maintain he knows more on both subjects than you do.
Do you?
PS. I didn't see your question. What was it?
My question was 'Are you now the spokesperson for atheists?' in response to your assertion;
//An atheist doesn't believe there is anything to be discovered//
I don’t understand your question, Khandro. I was asked for my opinion. I’ve given it. (Are you going to start being rude to me now rather than leave it until the end of the discussion as you usually do?).
Khandro, are you now the spokesperson for Nick Spencer?
v. //are you now the spokesperson for Nick Spencer?//
Never met the guy, but I'm sure I haven't said anything to which he would disagree.
Khandro, //Christianity, which ( as I have said on another thread) was once considered to be atheistic itself in that it refused to recognize the Roman gods and the emperor.//

Hold that thought! As the saying goes …..

"I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

//Belief in god marks the end to the search for answers and the quest of discovery. //

Certainly not! Just because people believe does not mean that they are not interested in answers, such as: What is the meaning of Life? Why are we here? What happens after death?
There are many scientists who are Christian and believe in God but that does not prevent them from searching.
And when a scientist presumes the existence of God they have ceased doing science.
//And when a scientist presumes the existence of God they have ceased doing science.//

Not only is that untrue, it bears more than a whiff of arrogance. We've had one contributor claiming to speak for all atheists and now you, the representative of all scientists. There are many scientists who embrace religions of differing denominations, for example here is one, an eminent astrophysicist who is actually an Anglican priest;

Others attend church gatherings and have a some form of spiritual dimension to their lives without banging on about it as you seem to have the need to do. There are many more who leave the door open, defining themselves as simply "agnostic".

Khandro, //We've had one contributor claiming to speak for all atheists//

How utterly disingenuous you are! That isn’t true and you know it isn’t true. If you are determined to enter into discussion it would be wise to remember that everyone present is capable of reading what has been said. Don’t take people here for fools because in the main they are not. Making it up as you go along to suit your own agenda makes you the fool.
naomi //.. If you are determined to enter into discussion it would be wise to remember that everyone present is capable of reading what has been said.//
Well I hope so, and I'm sure they can, ....are you nuts?... You said //An atheist doesn't believe there is anything to be discovered.// to which I questioned your authority to speak for all atheists, can you explain how this isn't an absurd sweeping statement claiming an understanding of the thinking of all atheists?
Khandro, //Well I hope so, and I'm sure they [other contributors] can [read what’s been written], ....are you nuts?//

You, apparently, can’t, but for your benefit I’ll repeat what I said. I was asked for my opinion. I’ve given it – and no, I am not nuts. You’re now being silly as well as rude and it spoils the discussion.
Naomi - if you said I think that or I believe that, it is you expressing your opinion.
If you say - /An atheist doesn't believe ......
Then you are definining what atheist beliefs are.
So Khandro asked you if you are a spokesman for all atheists.
You are now back-pedalling and saying you were asked for your opinion.
if something is just your belief better to stick to "I" to avoid confusion.
