If I *need* (why would I need?) to believe in a God for whatever reason (Eternal life. Avoiding eternal hell etc) then how could I be sure that the God that I believed in would be the one?
If 'God' himself appeared to me how could I be sure that this entity would indeed be the God of truth and not some impersonating spirit/delusion/demon/ etc?
Ive sometimes been asked what would turn me into a believer.
The answer is that I don't know.
But any God who cares enough about me WOULD know.
After 53 yrs on this Earth, I can only conclude that
1) God doesn't want me (or he would show me that he exists...no questions asked)
2) God doesn't exist

Either way, the problem is not mine.

Just came back with a six minute gift for you.
YOU did not tell me where the Israeli video was wrong!
A,hissy fit? There you go again !
What does it matter ?? Theland believes wholeheartedly in God, Nailit doesn't ! I don't believe in God (although I fervently believe in the afterlife). My dear, departed and lovely Dad did believe in God, he called him 'the Lord' and I never once ridiculed him or made him feel small for his beliefs. HE believed and that was good enough for me. Why can't we all just be different and get along ? My Dad believing in God didn't affect me or my wonderful relationship with him in any way at all. Live and let live for crying out loud !!
^ Amen.
There is only one God and you wouldn't have adny doubt if you met Him
Have you ever asked God to reveal Himself to you?
That is not a trite question. If you are sincere and honest with yourself about it God will reveal Himself to you.
One of my friends was visited by Jesus in his lounge!
Ok that's not an everyday event but it can happen.
Unfortunately with reference to your last point, it is your problem,
The Bible says we are without excuse as creation itself displays the glory of God.
Theland, why do you find a rational
explanation ‘breathtaking’?

@ Sun 0034,
as this is an open forum everyone is entitled to express non offensive opinions so please do not tell me what to post or not post.
Naomi - The video in question illustrates how history faithfully followed the prophecies.
You dismiss this phenomenon and say there was a RATIONAL explanation!
But the prophecies came true didn't they?
Why be too proud to admit it?
Baldric - I agree wholeheartedly.
Theland, there is no phenomenon. An alleged promise was remembered for centuries. Men were determined that eventually that promise would be fulfilled even to the extent of committing acts of terrorism - and eventually they succeeded. God was surplus to requirements. I know you want it to be a miracle but wanting it doesn’t make it so. The reason is quite straightforward. No mystery.

The Jews still raise a glass to ‘next year in jerusalem’.
I have never been particularly religious. I have tried praying from time to time and it does help me focus and relax but as for God appearing to me - nope. My boyfriend is religious and I envy him in many ways.

A few years ago I worked in a retirement home in Stoke on Trent that used to be St Dominics Nuns convent and was refurbished. A staff member had to sleep overnight in a room in the loft incase any of the old people needed help in the night. Half the staff swore they had seen a ghost in this room and two ladies even claimed that they had been pinned down by the throat on the bed by the ghost. We had three new staff start who all immediately quit after their first night shift. The manager even called in a priest from St Dominics Church to try and get rid of the spirit. I volunteered to do the night shift because I have always wanted to see a ghost and to try and ask it interesting questions. But basically despite working loads of night shifts I never did see anything in that room. I used to lie on the bed totally naked to try and provoke it but nothing. I actually got quite depressed thinking I'm just not interesting enough for anything to reveal itself to me.
I think you were lucky not to have seen anything.
Gymladtim, I
see no reason to equate ‘ghosts’
with god or religion. I’m my opinion nothing is ‘supernatural’. We might not currently understand what happens or why it happens but that’s no to say we never will.
Naomi are you suggesting that there may be a scientific explanation for ghosts that we don't yet know about?
I am indeed.
Thanks I will reflect on that idea.
And will unicorns appear as well?
"One day," science will explain all.
Wow! That is what I call faith.
Who said that Theland?
Question Author
//And will unicorns appear as well?//
Why not?
Mentioned many times in the Bible...
Numbers 23:22
24:8
Deuteronomy 33:17
Job 39:9
10; Psalm 22:21
29:6
92:10

Depending on which version you read
;-)
You suggested it Naomi, regarding ghosts.
No, Theland, I didn’t suggest that one day science WILL explain it all. It might .... but I’ve no idea if it will so I would never claim that.
