All of the things you mention, together with moral degradation,
the prevailing relativism where evil is called good, and good evil, and that's just a start, coalesce to make this world a morass of stinking behaviour and standards, which like the tentacles of a cancer, will invade every aspect of our lives, including yours!

May I go off on a tangent which may be relevant to the OP:
The English philosopher, Stuart Hampshire was recruited into Army Intelligence in WWII. After the Normandy landings he was approached be members of the French Resistance & asked to interrogate a spy & was told that after the interrogation the man would be shot - standard procedure.
At the start, the man said he would only give information with the guarantee that his life would be spared, Hampshire said, "I cannot do that". No information was gained & the man was shot.
Later in another conversation in another setting, a different philosopher said, "Hampshire was obviously the wrong man for the job".
Who was right?

Well, it wasn't really a cop out, Khandro. I considered being in that position and I know that whilst I think he should have been shot, I wouldn't give the man false hope. Given no incentive to talk I certainly wouldn't have expected him to spill the beans, but if the option of a replacement interrogator wasn't there, I would have done as Hampshire did.

n. Faced with that awful dilemma, Christians might turn to their bible, (there's a lot about in there, google 'truth in the bible') but all religions would say similar things, that is the point about sacred texts & why for millennia people have turned to them when faced with existential problems.
I'd do as Hampshire did, though some might argue that by lying he might have got information that could have saved other lives & the guy was going to be shot anyway.

Theland, let me get this straight, are you saying that adding the black death, the flu epidemic and two world wars together and occurring at the same time, the world today is still in a worse position?

I didn't think you would, but I said, "Christians might turn to their bible,..." people of other faiths may look to their teachings. That's what religion is about.
When Jesus was asked a direct question, he didn't give a yes or no type answer, he related a story (a parable), so did Buddha & Lao Tzu.
You recommended, Shtisel on Netflix, I think, (great!). I liked that when anyone went for guidance from a rabbi for their everyday problems they were given as way of an answer a story from the Torah.
Sacred texts are not about historical facts as most half-wits seem to think. If you don't understand what the third chapter of Genesis is really about, you haven't been paying attention.

The resistance who are quite capable of ripping out the finger nails of various dissidents - but ask a British Officer to do their job for them. And in 1944 after Dresden, etc the British Officer says - "oh my dear chap we dont do that sort of thing still". The communists had buried their differences with the rest ( Francs tireurs and god knows who else) and now was the time to settle scores
de Gaulle found out a resistant had agreed with the local huns that they wouldnt attack them (!) and the germans wdnt um shoot them (!) and he had the whole family shot - onree, sa femme et le fils
