the letter in the Times today said: Bible Studies Dear Sir, Keith Elliott writes about the debate over the exclusive authority of the New Testament (credo letters). Christians believe that canonical scripture was established under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. That some books entered the canon 'by the skin of their teeth' is immaterial....

Atheist - good point.
Why the mystery?
I don't know but it is easily solved.
God gives us clues together with contemporary events that bring together the puzzle pieces to show us the big picture.
The arrogance of atheists is sad if it were not so laughable!
How can highly intelligent posters miss the message?

No, not really, unless you also want to take Nostradamus seriously as well. Or Edgar Cayce? Or a hundred and one other doomsdayers?
Well remember the Y2K Prophicies....mostly from Christian Fundies,,,,,never happened!
Same with 'Blood Moon' Prophecy's......never happened!
There are no prophets, there are no prophecies. Theres just speculation.
Israel is a self fullfilling prophecy, it had to happen sooner or later.
(In much the same way that Poland became a country again after Hitler invaded it).
Anyway...Israel bombs its neighbors, not exactly in tune with Jesus's command to love thy neighbour as thy self!
Never understood that.

The Bible has lots of bits that can be verified. The rest is interpretation. The O.T. is the Torah, effectively. Naomi has said it. Why do people keep including the O.T. with Christianity? It's a totally different beast. Not just history (nor is British history finalised as yet, lots of bits still to learn). The New Testament is a record of a religious revolution in an unstable time. Much will have been suppressed, as is the way of these things. Christianity has little to do with the Old Testament. Why can't people understand that?
Jourdain. I didn’t say that. I don’t believe jesus was a revolutionary - well not in the religious sense at least. Jesus was a Jew who told his followers to ‘keep the law’ - Jewish law. If you’re looking for a religious revolution look to Paul - a man who never met Jesus and never heard him speak - because he was the man
who bent the rules and founded Christianity.

Eh?
The New Testament (espescially the Gospels) continually quote the OT.
Why dont you like the OT?
Jesus ENDORSED the OT.
He quoted from it endlessly.
The NT quotes from it endlessly.
Christianity has little to do with the Old Testament when you dont like it.
The genocide and killings, the unjust laws and hatred against against others,
the stupid laws against eating shell fish or pork,
the ridiculous laws against wearing garments made of two different fibres.
The ridiculous laws of stoning someone for picking up sticks on a sabbath day....
the list goes on but feel free to cherry pick.
