Since Naomi will not give me the ****ing key I have decided to follow Jesus and be a Christian just like Theland. I am ashamed of my past history here so I'm going to devote the time I used to spend on ab to reading the Bible. No question really because I no longer care about what people think. I'll get all my answers from God from now on thank you.

I have delved deeply into the meaning of life and through the efforts of my searching and from the knowledge I have gained in defining what life is in general and the value of my own contributions in particular, I have found that my life has become very meaningful. But it is also quite clear to me that those who have not undertaken a similar course of self-enlightenment are incapable of understanding what Im going on about. Such is there loss, not mine.

The ability to reproduce is an essential and therefore one of the defining characteristics of life. The instinctual drive to reproduce provided our pre-human ancestors with a marked evolutionary advantage over species that simply reproduced when conditions were favorable. Competing for the privilege to reproduce amongst others of their own species thus greatly accelerating their evolutionary development. It is with the manifestation of the ability to ask why and to find the answers to this question through reason that a remarkable new species first took its stand within the animal kingdom.

I now appears as though this species which we define as humanity has divided and is embarking down two separate paths, one attempting to revert to the a reliance on a divine instinct and the other devoted to realising the full benefits that can be afforded by understanding the reason they exist and exploiting the benefits of reason for promoting the further development of their own species rather than fighting mindlessly for the upper hand. I dont believe it is necessary to point out which path I have chosen to travel and I would not forsake my journey if I was to become the last human being on the planet. I can see no reason to continue living if living means to live a life without reason.
Hello Santuary-dwellers ..... I'll be back when I've had time to read and digest the week's posts properly.
Welcome back from your travels, Naomi.
There is indeed a lot to digest here, and so much for one sitting is giving me indigestion!
I too need time to contemplate Mibs' last few posts.
I think it could be tomorrow before I fully understand them, let alone reply to them.
Mibs describes my life as, "beleaguered," and so it is. I often wonder from which direction the next blow will come from.
Over the weekend, during the high winds, a tree came crashing down on to my sons car. Thankfully he was and his passenger where not injured, although his car sustained a few hundred pounds worth of damage.
It seems that whilst still reeling from one of lifes body blows, severe left and right hooks are finding their target with amazing accuracy and regularity. It is a testament to something, that I am still not smoking! However, I do constantly discover new depths to despair.
Surely this is not normal or average?
No, this isn't the response I had planned, just an initial thought or two.
We talk about noble concepts that are somehow descriptive of our common quest to realise or true humanity, and although we differ in the positions we adapt on matters of knowledge or faith, there is an exclusivity here, insofar as we can actually afford the time to discuss such matters and allow our minds the freedom to roam.
So many people of my personal acquaintance, are so busy in the proverbial widget factory, that there is little or no time to contemplate anything else at all except to wrestle with the problems of how to clothe and feed a couple of kids on the minimum wage plus a few bob in tax credits.
Just a thought.
Mibs, I confess to being somewhat confused.
This thread has long since ceased to be a speciality of anyones own particular discipline, and has grown comfortable, where a couple of serious posts can be interspersed with a tour of dusty ruins, a train ride, and a night in a farmhouse.
I did not feel out of place, therefore, asking a couple of questions about you that I would have found interesting. To me, people are interesting, and if I were to meet up with anybody at a social gathering, I would not only look forward to the main debate, but also the small talk, that which builds a picture of the person with whom I am conversing.
But what the hell! You don't want to play.
That's not exactly fine at all, because I am left wondering why?
Fair enough, if you suspect me of being a blackmailer or mad axeman, but even blackmailers and mad axemen need a bit more to carry out their wicked intentions than knowing your age, type of work, educational background etc.
I shall try another tack.
I shall launch sneaky attacks on your chuckle muscles, and break down your inscruitable armour plating with whatever humour I can muster.

Anyway, as you put great store in the ability and practice of thinking, then I guess that like Einstein, and probably many many others, you are often engaged in mind experiments, to see what your imagination comes up with, once you have furnished the basics, and set out the format of what is known, leading into corridors of speculation, maybe even creating worlds where logic and reason break down for all I know, and flights of fancy are are not only licensed but encouraged.
And what is known about our reality is very little really, as long as we are unclear about our origins. And that brings us back to the First Cause of all that is.
I too can speculate and there is no evidence to say I am wrong, which is why I suggested an interface between the sub atomic particle level of this material world, and the spiritual world that keeps it all together.
That is as legitimate as String Theory anyway.
(more to come ..... later or tomorrow)
Phew, an early start over three cups of coffee, and I've finally finished reading all the week's posts.

China, with your personality, intelligence and zest for life, I can't believe that some handsome hunk hasn't snapped you up by now. You don't play loud music to them, do you?

Mibs, wise.

Theland, your string theory is interesting, and it's possible that science will some day find a connection between the physical and the spiritual, but I don't believe for one moment that your God is hanging on to one end of the string. But you knew that anyway, so I'll change the subject.

You really have to get rid of that cloud that's hanging permanently above your head, Theland, old chap. I don't mean to nag, but I'm going to because you need nagging! Our lot in life depends to a great extent upon the way in which we view life. If we see everything as a major disaster, then we view our whole lives as a disaster. I'll agree it's awful that your daughter was mugged - that must be a terrifying experience - but a tree falling on a car? OK, inconvenient perhaps, annoying perhaps, but hardly a major disaster. It's insured, isn't it, so what's the problem? Life happens to us all, but we don't dwell on it. We just deal with it, and when the problem is dealt with we put it to rest. If you always see your lot in life as grim, then it will be grim, so stop it this minute!
Now to something else. Mibs began this thread by telling us he'd decided to change his way of life, to read the bible, and to get all his answers from God, so I'll confess that as a result of my recent excursion into the realms of the truly spiritual on earth, I too have seen the light. In fact my experience has been so profound, that I've bought a couple of plastic crosses, a 'genuine' crown of thorns mounted in a cheap frame, along with its official certification to hang on my wall, and a little snow storm bubble containing a statue of the Virgin Mary - and armed with the tools of the trade, I'm now seriously considering becoming a prophet. Just need to recruit a few disciples. Any offers?
It's because I'm hiddeous Naomi! ;0P

As to the disciple thing..... well I was always quite sympathetic to Judas so you might want to rethink that!
Ahhh .. I knew there had to be a reason. Have you tried the short-sighted ones?

Hmm ... I'm beginning to wonder who my true friends are here in the Sanctuary. First Theland only wants me for my money, and now you. OK, name your price - but do bear in mind that we prophets don't work for a living, so if it's 30 pieces of silver you're after, you've had it!
Ah you're alright, having looked at my finances today, I can say in the nicest possible way 'You can't afford me!'
That's just what I like to hear. A girl after my own heart!
Well, I've dutifully checked in to the Sanctuary before bed, but it appears that you lazy lot have already beaten me to my goal - apart from China, who is quite oviously out clubbing in search of a dreadfully myopic, but incredibly handsome man. Goodnight dear people - and sleep tight. x zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Question Author
China, So you think Gromit has the best links. Let's see him beat this!
Question Author
Mmm ... don't know if you've realised, but..... China has been out ALL NIGHT AND ALL DAY!!!!!! Now .... the question is, did she manage to pull that myopic, but incredibly handsome hunk last night? It seems likely. And speaking of hunks, where's Theland? Ohhh.... there's dirty work afoot ..... I feel it in my bones. China!! Theland!! Where are you? Come on, out you come. We won't take the mickey ........much.

Mibs .... enigmatic, as usual. A man of few words .... and of many.
Just trying to think of something clever to say ..........
...... well, it would be a first for me wouldn't it?
Naomi, your new prophet kit is working remarkably well.
You rub your icons, and I felt an overwhelming compulsion to appear. Like a genie in a lamp .......
Mibs sharpened his quill, and dipping it into the ink well, he looked over the top of his pince nez, out into the courtyard below, where the other renegedes waited for another Epistle.
He began to write.
"The Death Of Reason, and strangulation by conundrum."
Poof! (Or perhaps not!).

Theland, now come on, leave my icons out of this.

And no, it wouldn't be a first. I think you have a magnificent sense of humour - when you emerge from beneath that rain cloud - which, thankfully, you do frequently.

You ok?

And what have you done with China? No, don't answer that. I'll re-phrase it. Do you know where China is? No, perhap's I'll try again. (Visions of you rummaging in the depths of the cellar to find old altases spring to mind). Mmm.. . oh, blinking heck .... why doesn't she change her name? Anything would do. Doris, Mabel, Gertie .... anything but China!
