Olympic Spoilers

Just a polite reminder that with so much of the Olympics to watch,  please no spoilers.

I'm recording it all and will watch some live, some on iplayer and some recorded. Plus I have to take a break and do real life sometimes, during which time I try to avoid the news!

You are as well to stay away from social media sites altogether then. The successes are plastered all over msn and google.

Yes - Togo - that is all true - but it takes little effort to be nice and remove AB as a potential source of accidental spoilers for people.

Togo, the same can be said about any other sport or event with a lot of interest, not just the Olympics but it's not much to ask for, is it?

If the bank needs to be "removed" from the list of potential spoiler sites then why not remove yourself from the bank? You could of course be watching the playbacks instead of going on line and demanding that no one talks about historic events. I wonder how many newcomers would find the site if we made a point of posting the results immediately to attract hits, instead of demanding that no one highlights them? "Don't mention the war" indeed. Weird business model or refuge for the precious?

How about a place where people are considerate of other people, and don't needlessly spoil their enjoyment?

 

No-one is stopping anyone from rejoicing in success or bemoaning bad luck or failure - just hoping that they will take a very, very simple extra step in their initial post, to benefit others who may have been unable (for whatever reason) to share the contemporaneous joy/despair.

I will steer clear of the site when I know there are key events that I've yet to watch. But equally, it's a question and answer site, so why simply post the results of a sporting event? It would be good to be able to ask questions or have discussions during the games without obvious spoilers.

Imagine a site that provided information, on line, if people asked for it. A site with real people who could answer in real time, perhaps a site that people could visit to ask for their teams current score or join in an ongoing exchange. A site that encouraged the involvement of all participants. You could call it   ... oh I don't know , say  ...  the answernow or answerlive. There could even be a site member who posted the weekly "team" opener on game day to attract other fans of that persuasion. All games and sports teams could have their own flag bearer to engage with the like minded. Instead of a site that looked inwards and watched itself die we might get a forum that drew new traffic. Rather that shutting down the information flow we might contribute to it. All over the world fast information is driving business models and only here are we threatened with sanction if we have the temerity to talk about real events in real time. Rather than shutting down the majority who do manage to keep abreast of events, are we choosing to provide "safe spaces" for those who seek their thrills in private?
