Avast Blocking My External Hard Drive
My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.
Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)
(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Morning all. Poor sis, even though her flight made up time so she could get the last direct train to Eastbourne, the b.ggers cancelled it at 00.40. So she got the last train to Brighton and then the special bus to Eastbourne which went all round the houses and other towns. She finally got home at 3am, and texted me as I was anxious as Southern Rail has a bad reputation on late night trains. But alls well. Was indeed an ill-fated holiday travel wise.
I have too many other things on my mind jno to worry about Barcelona, and Brexit. Some person has lit a bonfire this bright sunny morning, it is a particularly smelly and smokey one, so all windows have to be shut and all was washing stinks. Grrrrr. I rarely use Barcelona (El Prat) airport. If the worse comes to the worse we'll use Palma de Mallorca!

Morning all. No one around? Decided to spring clean the front room as Mr N was at home and he could fight off any marauding cockroaches. He moved all the setters and there was a very dead one. He says fossilized but I do clean occasionally. Also did weekly shopping. Washing machine has been on 6 times today. Even though it is not and sunny I've been using the drier too. Steamed everything in sight. Am now plum tuckered, ache all over.
Here I be. Not carousing I'm afraid .My dancing days are a distant memory.
Just trying to catch up with household and other mundane stuff which takes me twice as long as it did twenty years ago.
I've also been doing some batch cooking for the freezer so that we've always got something for a meal once the cold weather does arrive.I made shepherds pies,a big load of steak, mushrooms and onion which I can make pies with, bol sauce and chilli and two apple loaf cakes.I hasten to add though, that I didn't do all that in hit !
Bit of dull day today but yesterday was lovely, quite warm. Its very mild for the time of year.
Hope you're all as well as.xx

OH's birthday in the morning, went to a Moominy exhibition in the afternoon, had dinner on the 40th floor in the evening but was sat at the end of the table so could only hear one person talking (and said person was mostly busy talking to the person on the other side). So I'm a bit grumpy but the food was nice.
Well the stew was delightful., meat cooked to perfection and all veg retained its shape instead of you tell mushy. But I had a complete inedible disaster with the dumplings. I always use baking powder and microwave them and add to stew and normally they are light and fluffy. This time I had run.out of bkingnpowder so I bunged in bi carb. All rose fine and i fi isbed off in stew. They were disgusting, very salty and sort of foamed in the mouth well thats what it felt like. I always thought bi carb was a raising agent.
Ooh nooo Neti...not foamy dumplings.
I never use baking powder, just SR flour and suet bit of salt and pepper then put them on top of the stuff in the slow cooker and whack it up on high for about twenty minutes. The one and only time I microwaved dumplings they came out like bricks .
Did anyone watch Eat well for less tonight. What a patronising man giving his wife marks out of ten for the meals she cooked him and the children were just as bad .She was a good cook too.I'd have given him ten marks round his lughole and told him to pick the bones out of that :)
Been quite nice again, very mild.Night all ,sleep tight.
