Mine has been switching itself off and on for a few months, now. There will be a series of clicks, and the light is on and off, on and off. Normally, after a few seconds, it switches itself back on though i sometimes have to give it a helping hand. Then, last Thursday, whilst watching the afternoon's racing, it switched itself off and would not come back on no matter what i did with the remote. Not being technically savvy, and having checked all the connections, etc, i assumed that my ty had gone to that great broadcasting house in the sky. So i went through the very difficult task of bringing the 'spare' one from my bedroom. It is about as big as a house, weighs the same as a baby hippo and is quite an unsightly box, hence being hidden away upstairs; where it serves no other purpose than gathering dust, i can't watch tv in a horizontal position:-). Anyway, the only way to get this thing downstairs, because of it's width and weight, was backwards and step by step, a most arduous and hazardous procedure. By the time i reached the foot of the stairs, i was well cream-crackered. And, as i heaved it into the living room, i was greeted by the sight - and sound - of horses jumping over fences. And, if pushed, then; yes, i also heard the sound of my tv chuckling away!!
Good point ! I was amazed when I had to replace my Freeview box (the local supermarket had the grand choice of one model, cheapish and plastic and, as it turns out, dodgy remote connection since one has to point the remote just so !) to discover it kept failing half way through the evening. Turns put is was a huge joke to have it switch itself off in the settings. More epic fail by a "designer" it seems. But if boikers has had the box for a while, it wouldn't be a recent change.
