Now then, here is my maternal grandmother age sixteenish in a hat she made herself. The photo's damaged vertically across her face, but still, isn't she lovely - looks a bit like a young Katie Holmes don't you think http://i48.tinypic.com/1imj9w.jpg
Speaking of 'orrible glasses (although I liked yours, Jude), here's my eldest sister (yep it's P, Robi) and me and I still remember those glasses of hers, they were RED. She's ten years my elder so maybe we're 4 and 14...? http://i47.tinypic.com/2m85a9u.jpg
And here's me not quite twenty years ago, certainly pre fathood, henna dyed and very much enjoying the Viking island of Birka http://i50.tinypic.com/14vnt46.jpg
(Article about Birka if anyone's innarested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birka)
Thanks Woofy and jno for further replies about PhotoShop! Shaney I'll answer your photo editing question later tonight or tomorrow, if nobody cares to beat me to it.

Well that article was there a minute ago...! In English! I'll try posting the Swedish article and anyone who's interested, try clicking 'English' in the left hand column: http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birka ...it IS there, I promise! Bloody Atlantis...

yes PSE would make a great gift and is easyish to learn although I still yearn for my paintshop pro which doesn'r function on a mac. All the pics are lovely, will post some tomorrow of the family..IMO MY Mum was a real beauty, sadly i don't take after her. Kit I imagined you as ash blonde, although lots of the Vikings had red hair didn't they?
shaney, yes, you can do an awful lot with photoshop; but it's not cheap, I think about £50, so you have to decide if you enjoy playing with photos that much, or want to do it that often, to make it worth it. I've certainly had value out of it but then I'm quite a keen photographer but not quite a good enough one. If all my photos came out beautifully, I wouldn't need photoshop, now would I?
Good morning all. Guess where I've been. Last minute decision to go out with my friend to my local haunt. Haven't been since the end of last year. My friend Andy Walker was on and my friend got almost legless on Carling. Good job I was driving. Anyway I thought it would do me good to get out and we had a good night.
Off to bed now so I'll say goodnight but I expect you 're all tucked up.
Good night and thank you all for your kind posts towards me lately.have a good weekend. See yer later 'gater(s)

grrr, beggar, @!!@*** and all expletives known to man!!! I have somehow beggared up my system (am on lappy now) and cannot download my English progs. Cannot possibly live without Eastenders and Corrie, will now go to the nearest bridge and think about jumping off, then will change my mind, have a coffee and come back. Am actually downloading them to lappy but screen is a bit small to watch them on, but will do if I hav e too!!
Ha ha Neti your riverjumping reminds me of an old cartoon from The New Yorker where a man is sitting at his desk holding his gun to his head with one hand and stopping his ear with the other hand!
Hm yes Woofy some kind of ash blonde is probably the nice word for what I am although mostly we call it 'rat colour' here... That was henna on the piccy. Very popular among the Vikings too I believe.
Shaney about photo editing, PhotoShop must surely be the best but there's actually a lot you can do even online or downloading a programme for free. Check this out, this is your photo you posted on here:

and this is how much better it gets with just one 'normalize' click of the mouse in LunaPic http://i45.tinypic.com/2itng3o.png
this is 3 or 4 mouse clicks in Photoscape, bit of airbrush et cetera http://i46.tinypic.com/6s9le0.png
and this is Shaney Loren also from Photoscape, where the 'expand' click made your eyes glitter even more http://i49.tinypic.com/k4gyfs.png

LunaPic is the online editing programme Vinny posted on here quite a while back http://lunapic.com/editor/
And this is where you download Photoscape; I did it maybe six months ago from that site and it never caused any problems http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php
If you want me to, I'll have a go at the piccy of your mother, but it's better I work on the original, which is not what you posted yesterday I believe?

...and not-fat...
Had a quick look at it and I don't believe that "the information" is there, Shaney. I can increase the contrast et cetera but it's not a big photo file and I don't think I'll be able to "find" more detail than what is already visible. But, jno and Woofy, doesn't it also have to do with how you scan it, i.e. if you leave it to a professional perhaps they'll be able to extract more info?
