VW Polo locking problem...

Whenever I try to central lock my VW Polo using the driver's door, it no longer works, yet I can central lock it using the passenger door. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be here please???

I want to switch off the front airbag in my 2002 Freelander so my baby son can ride in the front in his rear facing seat,  but it doesn't have this option. Could I simply remove the fuse?...
