Love sardines but definitely NOT in tomato sauce, got to be oil for full flavour. Probably healthier in tomato sauce though.
Sounds very nutritious to me pusskin!
what oil are the sardines in? how many calories in a can?
Definitely healthy - we often have it for lunch as it's quick, easy, yummy and good for you!
I read once that sardines are so packed with vitamins and minerals they should be on the shelves with them rather than in the food aisle!
Question Author
Not oil, just tomato puree 12% (tinned can)
unsaturates 2.9? I'm sure its healthy as its so delicious.

Woops --fats, 9.9?
Question Author
Never fancied them in oil.
have looked at all the ingredients, but find difficult looking up the good stuff that comes with them in the tin. If it tastes good --fine by me.
have never had to watch calleries, but I will with docs advice.
Not keen on tinned sardines but I like them fresh and grilled.
It's fine as part of a balance diet.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm on the right road then.
had them today for the first time in ages, and boy oh boy, they tasted so good, and have enough for tomorrow. Normally I have a bad appetite, but will look forward to experimenting with healthy foods now x
I'm not keen on the tomato sauce, but a tin in oil, drained then mashed with a little chilli & garlic sauce, on lavishly-buttered toast - droooooooool!
Question Author
I will try tinned sardines in oil now --I may even get to like them ! lol
I love sardines, but prefer them in oil.................I also have kippers once a week for breakfast.
I find oil too greasy. One can get various fish in curry, mustard, chilli, or other sauces too though. Or get them in brine and add your own sauce if desired.
I'm with L.I.K. lovely.
Better in oil, sardines that are of lower quality go into a tomato sauce so you can't tell they are a bit dodgy.

Brilliant link grasscarp, am reading it now x thank you
