You'll need to work hard to make sure you impress them in your new job to make sure they don't fail your probation or reduce your hours, and also try harder to be flexible and avoid issues with your supervisor- and be lucky to find you enjoy working with your colleagues and managers. With all that you might just make more of a success of it than in your last few roles

Abbey/E-mail is not the way ...if you must, then phone! Just remember the new company might not be able to change your days.

Since this is a new relationship as well as a formal one I'd suggest a hand-written letter, in ink, preferably using a fountain pen and on quality paper might elicit a favourable outcome.

Abbey, yes, you'll have to tell the new place that you need to give notice. They might decide against taking you on, if they'd been expecting you to start on Monday -you wanting/expecting to change the care home hours isn't really the concern of the new place. I think most employers would have expected you to mention the need to give notice, maybe you gave the impression that you could start right away?

So it's 24 hours if I did 2 days with the new place and 3 with the care home

Question Author

No I was off work for 2 weeks from care home and my trial shift was last Wednesday and I emailed that day.

Question Author

Or do I ask if I can do Tuesday and Thursday until I've finished on the care home.

Abbey, you're going to confuse us all again! I thought the new place wasn't prepared to change your days, hours? If they want you there Monday to Wednesday, that's what you'll have to do if you want the job.

Question Author

They did have a Tuesday and Thursday one. The care home won't change my days.

Question Author

Not that I think it will bother the care home

I think I'm needing a brandy having seen it mentioned on another thread!!  Abbey, get your act together instead of trying to find alternatives - this could go on forever.

I thought all this was sorted on a previous thread !

Start the new job when you said you would or you will lose it. How much notice do you have to give at the care home? Offer to work those hours when you're not working at you new job.   As long as you work the hours of your notice they may let you do that. Basically you are in this mess by not speaking to them face to face in the first place

Question Author

I'm not sure as still on probation and I been on leave so had to ring/email them and they said they couldn't swap my days. The only day I work at care that I don't work at new job is Friday.

Well, Abbey, you obviously can't do both jobs next week, so you'll need to make your mind up... pretty soon!

This is becoming an abuse of the site, utterly shameful.

I think it's since I had abit of a spat with my supervisor since that inspector came in when another colleuge thought she hasn't shown me the cleaning routine and my college pulled her saying it was very unfair cutting my hours then my supervisor pulled me and was upset as she could get into trouble had that have got to the boss so since then I think that why she been funny.

Abbey, that little story has nothing really to do with you telling a new employer that you can start when you can't, that you can do certain days when you can't... I feel you've got yourself into a real muddle! PS You're obviously not enjoying the care home as much as you were, so another job (preferably a full-time one) would help your life a lot.

so just so i get this right in my little mind

job 1 - care home, 3 days a week total of 8 hours monday wednesday and friday - was originally full time but they reduced your hours to 8 because you could perform to the expected standard.

Job 2 - cleaning, 21 hours a week monday wednesday and friday.

You accepted job 2 before getting the go ahead that job 1 would change your hours to suit you.

Job 1 will not change your hours so now you need to give notice so that you can start job 2 next week.

Have I missed anything?

Just to digress a little, Abbey..can I ask how you spend your days when not at work ..do you help at home, have hobbies indoors other than communicating with AB?   You seem to get too upset
by things which happen at work - really they are minor compared to what some people have to endure.

I do dog walking, shopping going out with friends and family. No it's a shame as I thought I would be there long term.
