/// After being held illegally and tortured for 13 years, it now appears that he has been freed, and not before
time. ///
What proof is there that he has been tortured for 13 years?
/// This man will need medical care when he returns, so we should pull out all the stops to help where we
can. ///
If he does need medical care after being imprisoned and tortured as you state, he should be put on the road to recovery by the US, and not by our already over burdened NHS.

The Bush Administration admitted it had no credible evidence against Aamer which has is why they recommended his release in 2007. According to documents released by wiki leaks, Aamer was implicated by a witness who has been proven to be unreliable. The 'evidence' would not hold up in court, so unlike others who ended up prosecuted, Aamer never had a trial.
"Bas...there is no evidence that he wasn't working for a charity, otherwise he would have been charged with an offence and then committed for trial.
Unless you know different of course ! If you do, then share your evidence with us, and the authorities. Stop chortling and start explaining ....In other words, put your money where your mouth is please. "
some days its just not worth chewing through the restraints....
why dont some of you read up on this persons history...still lets not worry about that, lets put him and his ooman rights before the country and its security....

AOG.......if you had been detained without trial and tortured for 13 years by the Yanks, wouldn't you want to get as far away from there as soon as possible ?
By the way, there is ample evidence that he has been tortured but no evidence of his guilt, otherwise the Yanks would have charged and tried him at some point in the last 13 years.

/// and I am sure he is able to think - and answer for himself. ///
What just like you let others answer for themselves, you regularly put yourself up as spokesperson for others, especially when you are cosying up to others.
/// Let's not go down that path again - shall we? ///
Then stop constantly trying to lead others down your path.
Your comment : "Would your opinion be the same if he was white British"? was totally uncalled for, admit it.

what a fascile question (to be expected from the likes of you though)...as hes neither its impossible to say...still, dont let that bother you, youve already made up your own answer... //
I am constantly surprised at the vitriol you send in my direction when all I have done is ask you a simple question.
If you prefer not to answer, that's fine, but there no need for the hostility from you, or others who agree with your stance on the issue.
I am entitled to disagree - and I am not offensive to you in doing so - let's just agree to disagree shall we, and leave the hostility out of it.

Whatever happened to that basic tenet of law...innocent until proved guilty ?

From the above link :::
"One of the most sacred principles in the American criminal justice system, holding that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty. In other words, the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, each essential element of the crime charged"
Doesn't seem to apply to the CIA apparently.
Is New Judge on here this morning ? Couldn't a writ of Habeas Corpus have been used here or does that not apply in a US Military Court ?

// The allegations against British Resident Shaker Aamer as a recruiter/ financier/ translator/ facilitator for Bin Laden originate from serial informers, such as Yemeni ex-Guantanamo detainee Yasim Mohamed Basardah, (ISN 252) who made accusations against 123 detainees. Even the US officials expressed reservations about Basardah's credibility. (Washington Post Feb 2009) Judge Richard Leon excluded his evidence as tainted in the habeas corpus petition of 14 year-old Chadian Mohammed el-Gharani. False allegations from Abu Zubayah, (ISN 10016) who was waterboarded 83 times in one month, litter the files of 104 detainees, including Shaker's. //
