Sp, you’re ‘astonished’ yet again, but I have no idea why. The only verified statement we have is that he had been suspected by the FBI of having links to Islamic extremists – who happen to hate western values and western liberalism in all forms. Perhaps this madman decided that by attacking a gay nightclub he was achieving a double-whammy - but it certainly wasn't all about homophobia.
A dreadful and heart-breaking event and whether it was 'straightforward' homophobia, or 'Islam-induced' homophobia, the lives of over 100 people and their families have been irrevocably altered.

My thoughts are with them...

You need to re-read mikey4444's comment.

He's agreeing with me.

Or are you now referring to me as 'sensible'?
Completely agree JTH.

Well said.

I shall be attending London Pride for the first time in over a decade this year. A tiny act of solidarity, but there it is.
Question Author
Sp, everyone is agreeing with you in that the fact that it was a gay club is a relevant factor in this atrocity – but you can't see that. All I and others are saying is that it was not the only factor as you seem to prefer to believe.
naomi24

What conclusions did the FBI draw?
Okay naomi24
Question Author
sp, you can read the reports as well as I can. IS has claimed responsibility.
naomi24

You might be right, you're might be wrong - but mikey4444 is correct in that this is a circular argument, so there's little point going over the sam ground.
Re: IS

As Mandy Rice Davis once said...
Question Author
sp, stop going over the same ground then.
naomi24

My reference to IS is brand new ground. I'm no longer referring to the motive that the attacker had, but whether IS can be trusted to confirm whether they are involved.

Also, when someone concedes that an argument cannot be won, it's classy to agree and let it lie, rather than extending the same argument beyond its natural conclusion...which is what I was trying to provide.

I think that you want to have the last word, and am happy to let you have it.

Go for it! I have to interview someone now, so the thread is all yours.
There is more than one ingredient to this

Take ... Hate for gays
Add ... Support for IS
Add ...American gun law

And you have a perfect recipe for disaster
Question Author
Making an argument personal is classy? Really?

^Those probably won't be the last words on this thread.
Perhaps tragedy would be a better word (the AB pedants will be pointing out disaster is usually a natural catastrophe)
"Isis hails Omar Mateen as 'soldier of the Caliphate' after 50 killed at nightclub".

Independent headline
Bloody hell ! Is this still going on !
//Bloody hell ! Is this still going on ! //

I fear mikey that "this" and other similar outrages will be going on for some years to come.
Whilst liberals refuse to see the threat and consequences a declared jigad is it will continue.
Question Author
Mikey, //Bloody hell ! Is this still going on !//

50 people were slaughtered yesterday by a madman. Why wouldn't we be talking about it?
