People are forgetting that the situation is tense in the south of France, France gnerally in fact. Only a few weeks ago a murderer with possible Islamist motives drove a lorry through a crowd of people in Nice. I don't blame the authorities for wanting to minimise overt displays of affiliation to Islam in a French seaside resort at the current time. The...

Ellipses at 23:06 Wed, not so. Completely disingenuous of you.
Ellipses/Mikey, how ironic that you should both cite “liberté, égalité, fraternité” – none of which Islam supports – well maybe “fraternité”, but only if it applies to Islamic brotherhood. Others need not apply.
Sp, //why is the burkhini being referred to as religious clothing? It's not.//
Of course it is. If it wasn’t, there would be no argument. Alternative cover-up clothing doesn’t appear to be acceptable. Why would that be do you think?

No matter what you think regards this Beach issue the French Police are 100% correct, this is the workings of IS, It seems a lot of Muslims are helping IS, If this is the way the public have to be protected, let it be the way, is the Burka needed? NO, Is our life worth more than the use of this stupid cover up. yes, If te person does not like the French Rules / Law, they have a choice, except it or get out. Simple, ready for it!!

The only correct part of your post is that the police are correct in enforcing the law - although not for the reason you have offered.
I am interested to know what you believe what 'protection' is offered by stopping people dressing a certain way?

/// I don't like racists and I loath smoking ! I hate loud pop music being played when its audible to everybody else on my housing estate. ///
/// But to try and pretend that all of those things don't exist, by removing from the eye makes no sense at all, and any law would be unenforceable. ///
If you don't already know there are certain laws which are indeed enforceable as regards those three practices.
And as regards to 'some' playing very loud music and 'smoking', be very careful mike because you could well be accused of being racist yourself.

AOG - //Perhaps she could have been concealing something sinister and life threatening under that garment, what then?
Won't be the first time a Muslim has run amok on a beach. //
Contrary to my initial post, this has provided a lengthy and stimulating debate!
But it still boils down to a very simply question - is the enactment and enforcement of this law actually going to make people safer, which would be an excellent reason for its implementation.
The simple argument is clearly that it will not, and no amount of rhetoric around it is going to alter that simple fact.
As your Best Answer refers - this is rooted in a need to be seen to be dealing with the Islamist threat, even though it is utterly pointless, and creates more problems than it solves.
This is a bad law, badly enforced, and as I have advised in my posts, it will merely serve to inflame the Jihadists, and heaven knows, that is something the absolutely don't need!
