Whether or not one agrees with this, the woman should have known the law, just as a bikini wearing Western woman should know an Islamic country's laws.

People are forgetting that the situation is tense in the south of France, France gnerally in fact. Only a few weeks ago a murderer with possible Islamist motives drove a lorry through a crowd of people in Nice. I don't blame the authorities for wanting to minimise overt displays of affiliation to Islam in a French seaside resort at the current time. The...

Not taking sides on this (if you want to avoid sunburn you can wear a kaftan sort of thing, not a burkini, so that argument disappears). The simple point is that it is against the law. If you break the law you incur penalties. I would not wear a bikini in Saudi Arabia, as I respect their laws. That's all. Anyone deliberately wearing a burkini on a French beach, where it is banned, is being deliberately provocative and needs to feel the force of the law.
Ellipsis, // In your opinion naomi, which you continue to spout as long as you are given the oxygen to do so.//
Careful, Getting personal is always evidence of a desperately flagging argument.
//That's right jourdain2 - the land of liberté, égalité, fraternité is now comparable to Saudi Arabia, one of the world's most oppressive regimes.//
Wow!! First you compare France to Nazi Germany - and now to Saudi Arabia? Really? Are you sure about that? You need to calm the hysterics and take a serious reality check.

The whole wet-suit thing was just a stupid post, so I ignored it !
As most people on here have said, this is heavy-handedness by the Police, desperately trying to enforce a totally unenforceable local by-law.
Liberté, égalité, fraternité ?....not any more it isn't. Its just State-sponsored bigotry.
Its amazing how a few people on here would support such a draconian law like this.

Tambo....there is no restriction on what men can wear on the beaches of Nice......couldn't a man conceal a weapon under his clothing ?
People normally take a large towel with them when they go to the beach.
I expect quite a few guns could be hidden inside a rolled up towel !
But this daft by-law isn't about safety though, is it ?
