Whether or not one agrees with this, the woman should have known the law, just as a bikini wearing Western woman should know an Islamic country's laws.

Chili....I am addressing the current issue, and I have made the point,
many times on here, that an unenforceable by-law isn't going to make any difference.

The French seem to want to demonise all Muslims, instead of the few that are militant. France has about 5 million Muslims and only a very tiny proportion of those are, or where involved in terrorist acts.

Militant Islam is a very serious problem for us here in Europe, as well as most of the Middle East, but it won't be solved by interfering with what some women want to wear on a beach.

Those Police out patrolling the beaches would be better employed in the fight against terrorism, not looking for problems were they don't exist.

I'm sure that we can all agree that this is a much better use of resources than, say intelligence gathering (online monitors is very labour intensive) or street patrols or even investigating ongoing crimes not connected to terrorism.

Plenty of people who would not otherwise have batted an eyelid see a Muslim woman being bullied and her children frightened - tick.

Worldwide media attention - tick.

Pandering to rightwing voters - tick.

Looking hard and productive while actually being neither - tick.

Leaving a bad taste in the mouth of anyone who doesn't like institutionalised racism - tick.

Just thought of something which the police definitely shouldn't be doing.

They should not be assigning officers to identify extremists sites, then launching class actions to get the hosting ISPs shut down.

And they definitely shouldn't initiate international trade sanctions against countries in which these ISPs are physically hosted.

...because that doesn't make good photos for the papers, allowing people to see that 'something is being done'.

Loving the fact that Muslim have one bunch of people telling them to cover up, and another telling them to get uncovered.
