'..... If you look on social media, you will find there is a broad right-left split. The left thinks we are all going to die and that this is the consequence of human selfishness and eating meat and capitalism and Trump and Boris and people flying everywhere. They believe that the 500,000 [deaths] figure is an underestimate: they yearn for disaster, to believe that it is happening, that we are all doomed and it serves us right.
The right, broadly, remains as dismissive of the virus as it was during stage one, pointing out that even in countries that don’t have proper drains or representative democracy, the death rate from Covid-19 is still stubbornly low — yes, even in Iran. They challenge the headlines and the experts, suggesting that people are dying more rapidly of other ailments and that the stats for Covid-19 so far don’t add up to a hill of beans, in the grand scheme of things.....'
Sorry Khandro, I'm firmly left wing, but I'm far from fitting with the description in your post. I'm a little stunned by the panic surrounding coronavirus. I think if people are careful with their hygiene, there is little to worry about at the moment.
I'm in the middle simply because no one knows what the final out come is going to be, including the experts on viruses, I believe they are working round the clock to try and understand it more.
I did read somewhere that we touch our face up to 15 times per hour without knowing it, to stop me doing this I've constructed a full face mask, a bit like if I was taking fencing lessons, out of chicken wire. Anyone want to buy one. £100 each, bargin!! :0);0)
I know someone who is a co-director of the biggest music & film fest in the US, (South by Southwest) due to start next week, he has worked for 12 months travelling all over the world, you name it; Tokyo, Moscow, everywhere, making arrangements, he was due to fly out there tomorrow morning & the city fathers of Austin, cancelled it last night.
I’m a leftie and like Mozz, don’t fit your description.
We all might die, but I doubt it. I’m not worried about myself, but am about my dad. I would anyway, as he’s 80 and got heart problems.
The media coverage does all does seem a bit over the top. It’s horribly sad for those who’ve died of course.
