Reading through this report it appears that Harry told the queen of their intention to name their daughter Lilibet, but contrary to their claim they didn’t actually seek her permission.
Goodness knows where all this controversy with those two will end, but the plot thickens.
Naomi I didn't say nobody cares about this story, quite obviously people do. My point was that he said/she said about a babies name is the most interesting thing about the Royals now, and when the Queen goes so will a large percentage of people who care about the royals both in the UK and around the world and as time goes on less and less people will - it's generally an older generation thing - I give them 20 years but we shall see!
calmck I've just read an article on Jill Biden and Kate who are visiting places together today, and I expect Meghan would have liked to have done that.
I sincerely hope you’re wrong, archibaldy. Witness the flag-waving crowds at any royal event … and the street parties to celebrate them. The Royal Family are the cornerstone of our society and I think most people appreciate that.
> Daddy, is it true you named me out of spite for your Grandma?
>> Of course not, Lili darling, why would I ever name somebody I loved so much out of spite?
> But Daddy, why do people say that you did?
>> Because, darling, they are the spiteful ones. I think perhaps they don't like the fact that I married a black woman. But please be assured that Mummy and I, and my whole family including your sadly departed Great Grandma, love you very much.
I think archibaldy could be right, it's a generation thing.
I was born exactly 1 year before the Queen and the DofE married and they have both done so much for this country in their roles in my lifetime.
When it comes to Charles and Camilla, I think it will be very different.
I can of course only talk about my experience, but I do know that none of my 3 daughters are even slightly interested in the Royal family.
Clearly we disagree on that. Plowing their own furrow is one thing, and that's their prerogative to pursue as they wish, but I don't think Harry is nast enough to deliberately spite HRH in that way.
// I can’t imagine how anyone has retained a good opinion of them.//
I don't particularly, I just don't despise them the way many on AB seem to. I'd be very happy indeed to never hear from them again, and for them to happily live out their lives in glorious anonimity, as is their (supposed) desire.
The whole thread is full of fantasy, naomi, as nobody really knows the facts of the matter, and if you think race doesn't come into why so many people want to make an issue of it ... well, LOL.
If you didn't spot the point of my post, maybe you should think about that: Harry is not going to name his baby out of spite.
eve it is a pretty name, but to be honest with you, I've never heard of anyone who has this name except the Queen, and it's a name I think she thinks of fondly.
Perhaps she might be delighted that this is the name H&M have chosen, we may never know, but I don't know how she would feel if it became used as a name for hundreds of babies about to be born around the world.
