And why the hell is the Mail referring to somebody with a penis who rapes women as 'her'?
In his most recent Netflix special, Ricky Gervais had a routine about this very scenario, which was hilarious because it was so absurd. Paraphrasing "He raped me", "you mean she raped you", "but he had a penis", "she had a penis you effing bigot". But clearly it wasn't that absurd after all!

1998, I was in prison with someone who was half way through a sex change.
(Hormones etc).
He/She still had tackle (so to speak)
but had breasts and other characteristics of a female.
He/she knew that the day that they were due in court that they
were going to get sent down (minor car offences) but still chose to present to a judge as female complete with wig and high heels.
Upon arrival at prison, they were subjected to abuse from the screws.
(Not the cons) and ended up on the hospital wing for the duration of their sentance.
He/she was given a cell to him/her self for his/her own protection.
One of the nicest people you could meet.

But if you have only male and female prisons, then is it the sex or the gender that prisons the prisoner? The prisoner is not the sole one who chooses. There are other stakeholders in play.
And it seems reasonable, when a male (sex) rapist is going to go prison, it's a male prison they're incarcerating.

other than the prisoner in question and their lawyer has anyone actually claimed that this person should be incarcerated long-term in a female prison? i can’t see that anyone has… everyone seems to be in agreement that a male prison is most appropriate and the special cases panel seems to have reached that decision pretty quickly…

There's room in my life for all sorts of things. You still don’t understand (and I’ll only try one more time).
My obsession is not with “cissexist ideology.” It is with resisting the idea that a man becomes a woman (with all the rights and privileges that bestows) simply because he says so. It really doesn’t work like that and it is foolish to pretend that it does. Any government that tries to impose that view will find it's not acceptable to a large proportion of the population. The folly of this nonsense is epitomised in part of the ridiculous episode where the Scottish First Minister tried to defend the notion that it was acceptable to incarcerate a convicted rapist in a female prison - the action that started this thread. The Scottish Justice Secretary was asked whether he considered the double rapist in question and a stalker called Tiffany Scott (a man) to be trans women or predatory men. He relied “If someone presents as a trans person we accept that at face value.” And there is the problem. Two men, both of whom have been convicted of serious offences against women, tell the Scottish authorities they are now women. And it’s accepted “at face value.” Objecting to that ludicrous statement is not cissexist ideology. It’s objecting to senior public servants supporting fiction and expecting the rest of us to be as daft as he is by accepting it as fact.

In most circumstances, men who pretend to be women cause no harm and nobody objects to them. But in some circumstances they do and the example of these criminals is but one. As ellipsis says, there is more to consider than their requirements and feelings. Other people are involved and their rights do not get automatically trumped.
Regrettably there will be people who have different opinions to yours. They’re not bigots; they’re not being discriminatory. This difference of opinion will not be resolved by simply slagging off those who hold different views. There is a genuine concern in this country that some of the rights demanded by transgender people is will cause serious difficulties and in fact is already doing so. And that concern won’t go away by trying to bully people into accepting fiction as fact.
I think I’m out of this thread now because our differences are insurmountable and are beginning to lead to unpleasantness.

Without exception ALL contributors to this thread, were unanimous in welcoming the decision to have this transwoman rapist transferred to a male only gaol.
As you rightly say, the law ought to protect the safety of all others. Clearly in this case it didnt.
Bryson committed the crimes whilst identifying as a heterosexual man. Currently Scottish law permitted him to identify as a woman with all rights bestowed.
That is clearly a loophole and was subsequently exploited by Bryson. The TH intervened and common sense prevailed.
New legislation can eradicate this from happening again.

When you say 99.9% are attention seekers, conversely this is to say 1 in every 1000 claims results in the identity of a genuine transgender person.
This is one more than what new judge would admit to.
