my goodness, what have you started, smow ?? knitting has been out of fashion here over the past years but all of a sudden there's been an upswing in interest and the 'youngsters' of 30something are all knitting which is great

My gran taught me to knit when I was pretty young and once I learnt to hold the needles correctly I've always had something on the go

Recently found out about a woollen mill contact where we can buy really good wool at very reasonable prices and I'd be amazed if there wasn't something like that in the UK ie I just finish a sweater for Mr S which cost $48.00 australian, but I had enough over to knit up a smaller one for a charity shop

and after all that waffle, please may I join the ABKC ??

gness had brilliant idea re the fish n chip baby knitting. She suggested sewing a tiny AB somewhere on each garment(or maybe a huge one!) so that there would be loads of little AB woolies somewhere in the world on the babies : )
See my avatar for most recent project
Finished the first vest yesterday. Am going to start on number 2 today, and will look out a pattern for little hats later.

It would be fun to see the faces of the folk when they receive a bundle of stuff for the fish'n'chippies. :-)

AB is going for world domination.

Rowan, please post a pattern ;-)
Question Author
Love rowans avtar lol.

Yes when ive finished this bolero I am going to start the fish n chip knitting - will prob do a few before posting, makes more sense to send a bundle.
I was thinking about 4 vests and 4 hats, just to see the lay of the land for postage charges.
Pattern for Willy

Use double knit wool and size 8 needles

cast on 24 stitches and knit one purl one rib for firdst inch
Stocking stitch in body colour to length of willy minus 2 inches
Change to face colour and knit one inch
then change to hat colour

continue in stoking stitch decreasing at each end of next 5 rows cast off

Sew eyes and mourth into centre of face area

Stitch up back seam gathering open top end to form hat
add bobble if you wish
Mrs V and Miss V are expert knitters - just had a lovely Whitby gansey for my birthday - Miss V knitted a doll with hands about an inch long, perfect, with all the fingers - I'd put up a picture if I knew how!
add any stripes or other patterns to body if you like... starters might want to keep it simple
Question Author
Now you wont see that very often - "Pattern for willy "

LOL
They keep on telling me how easy it is, and how some men are brilliant knitters.
I have hands like shovels, good for kneading bread, also lack patience. Lost cause?
Question Author
alba, dont think postage will be much at all - they are barely going to weigh anything.
Thanks Rowan, have C&P's it. Never thought I'd save a file as willy pattern :-)
Rowan - can you do pointy red hats? (in joke)
I wasn't going to say a thing, the shame of it.

Had a dream that the 2 albas came home late-ish wearing pointy hats.
Question Author
venator, my 12 yr old is the clumsiest child I know and I have even managed to teach him to knit when he was about 9. Just basic but he could make a scarf etc.
thanks smow, happy to be aboard !!

alba - this is the pattern i use for beanies for premmie babies, the smaller version, and I;ll look out the bigger one tomorrow

size 4.00m needles and soft 4 ply

cast on 54 sts, and work 16 rows in K1 P1 rib
change to stockinette [knit 1 row, purl the next] for 24 rows
then row 1 - K3, K2tog to the end of the row
row 2 - P2, P2tog to the end
row3 - K1, K2tog to the end
row 4 - K2tog to the end
gather remaining sts by running a thread through, sew securely then continue sewing the seam - add a bow or pompom if desired

this will keep you going for a bit xx
Question Author
Great pattern seekeerz - will add that to the little jumpers. The tiny nanies will soon have a new wardrobe!
sorry folks, didn't mean to confuse but this is the bigger beanie .... now where did I put the smaller one ??

this one would be ok size-wise to go with little jumpers
