Would any practicing Roman Catholics on here, help me to understand how they are able to accommodate their religion in the face of diametrically opposed scripture?

Having been brought up as an roman catholic in my early childhood, I was never able to grasp the concept of one mystical being a god and spirit at the same time. And then to add that god and his son are one and the same just smelled of foul play.
Luckily, I woke up in time.

Catholics are brought into the church at a very early age, taught a load of conkers (which they have to recite blindly - or used to with catechism) which was impossible to understand by an adult, never mind a child.
By the time they are old enough and start doubting, the old brainwashing kicks in.
Hooray for the more enlightened in society who are starting to question blind faith - of all religions.
