to the religious....
So whats it all about?
Retribution, judgment, what?
End times (again) maybe?
A plague from God?
A precursor of the Anti-Christ?
Serious question, what the **** is this all about then?
Or is it simply an unprecedented virus that science will cure?

I am sure that, like me, you have a very very long list of things you find utterly unfathomable -
Why is Michael McIntyre considered funny?
Why are Coldplay still allowed to make records?
Who ever thought Michael Barrymore was 'talented'?
Why did the Daily Mail constantly tell us how attractive Samantha Cameron is?
Why can't I get a writing gig at Rolling Stone?
(actually, I know the answer to the last one!!)

Nailit, you have a very skewed understanding of the bible.
Can you point to one single sentence that instructs followers of Jeus Christ to commit acts of violence?
People do, of course, become sectarian, as in Northern Ireland, but none of them can claim authority for their violence from the bible.
On the other hand, there are clear instructions for violence in the Koran.
And why are you still worrying about a book you don't believe in?

Just another round of random catastrophes that have beset those inhabiting the planet throughout history. The Black Plague was far worse but Jesus didn't front up and orchestrate Tribulations then.
Looking at the bigger picture, the plague was trivial compared to events like the Chixilub Impact or the Permian-Triassic Extinction.

Jesus said that every word of the Old Testament stood as God's word. Plenty of commands to commit brutal violence in there.
One of my favourites is Deuteronomy 21:18 where the father of a disobedient son is advised to tell the men of the town that his son is a "glutton and a drunkard" (regardless of whether this is the truth) and they should stone him to death
The Bible is the moral guide for the mentally ill.

Theland:
the Book of 1 Samuel, when God instructs King Saul to attack the Amalekites: "And utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them," God says through the prophet Samuel. "But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey."

Don't forget how God commands people in Psalm 137:9 to tear the unborn from their mother's wombs and smash their heads in front of them.
Don't forget, Jesus said every word of the Old Testament stands forever.
If these hideous tomes were written today their authors would be jailed for inciting hatred.

Once again, a minute to ask the question, but lots of time required to answer it comprehensively.
And remember the essential message is Jesus.
And what is the point of ignoring the central message in order to criticise the OT questions?
Why do you criticise?
If you get satisfactory answers, will you become a believer, or is this just entertainment for you?

No-one is suggesting ignoring the 'central message' - they are simply not willing to let you swerve the violent bits because they don;t happen to chime with your version of God's message.
That's selective editing, and since you don't allow Muslims to ignore the violent entreaties in their holy book, why should anyone allow you to do the same?

Theland - // Andy - I'm sure you'll realise you have given me a fair bit of work to do.
I'll try my best, give me time. //
Please don't put yourself out on my account, I am not giving you any 'work to do' - you take that upon yourself because as a Christian, you are incapable of simply enjoying life, you have to put this endless seeking and handwringing and fretting and arguing upon yourself - I have no idea why, but that is your decision.
// Note, the Jews were not very flattering when it came to writing their own history were they? //
Weren't they? I honestly couldn't care less.
Since I am sure by now you realise that any amount of 'work' you inflict on yourself will not change my view of God and the bible one iota, take my advice, save the time, and go for a nice walk, it will do you much more good.

I think Vulcan is right, theland. I've never asked you anything "factual" according to the bible... only ever about your own views and beliefs, which you obviously will know. But you avoid my questions as much as anyone else's- and I have never asked you to research anything.
If you know it well enough to fully believe it, you don't need other sources to say it for you.
