Never understood why the religious (particularly, charasmatic type christians) go to hospital/medical help first and then thank God when they recover (and obviously dont thank God when they die)

Absolutely nothing (barring lockdown of course) to stop you from going to the Doctor or Hospital and then turning to your God later, or before or even on the journey there.

This is not a new thing. When I was young there was Asian flu. I even got that mildly. I'm sure many people died of that. There just wasn't all the drama. And of course the Spanish Flu epidemic was far worse, especially as it killed so many young people. There have been others too. It's just what happens.

The group of Corona Viruses were first discovered in animals in the 1930's and in humans in the 1960's.

Quite obviously as a group they have been around for a lot lot longer than that.
