Has a device been invented that can combat ludicrously loud car music as follows.......Once the volume reaches a certain decibel output, the music is interfered with by radio waves, and turns the tune into The Birdy Song? This would result in the baseball-capped youth instantly reaching for his volume control and sparing us all from the infernal din. And why is loud car music ALWAYS really cretinous?

A device hasn't been invented to do this automatically unfortunately. In answer to your second question, the music is always cretinous because the driver is a cretin (usually with a very large .............. inferiority complex of course ;-)).
I have to dispute this. 'Loud Music In Cars' is one of the great, forgotten pop songs of the 1980s and the highpoint of the solo output of the equally underrated guitarist/ singer Billy Bremner (no, not that Billy Bremner!) who older readers may remember from Rockpile, the Pretenders etc etc. Top tune - and I've never heard it being played in a car. Great tune.
yes there is a device - it is called a rifle and when i become prime minister all police will carry these and be given powers to take out such drivers of said vehicles, plus joyriders, middle-lane drivers, and cars with caravans driving in daylight hours......
darth: there's a lot to be said for that middle lane... People can still overtake you, and you don't feel like you're on cobbles because of the lorries having rippled the inside lane (not to mention the fact that water seems to pool much easier on the inside lane)... Add to this the fact that you're further from the edges of the road and the hard shoulder and it's no wonder people feel safer in the middle. Let's just hope you don't become PM... :-)
lisaj - can't agree about middle lane driving. Illegal - yes. Dangerous - yes. Inconsiderate - yes. Anybody who can't drive correctly on a motorway... shouldn't drive on a motorway (and yes, before you say, that includes speed-merchants too.)
Funny about this middle lane controversy. Changing lanes is a hazzard (doesn't happen in the USA). A vehicle in the middle lane does not have to change lanes to overtake slower drivers nor does it prevent faster drivers from overtaking them. What's the problem?
