Does anyone have a foolproof way of separating smoked salmon, bought in a vacuum pack? I usually end up with a shredded mess, which doesn't matter, but I would rather have slices than shreds.

When I've had smoked salmon (from Waitrose), the slices have been interleaved with thin filmy sheets making separating a doddle.
Any I've had have plastic sheets between slices for just that reason.

Youngs it was.
A good alternative is to buy un-sliced still on the skin (if you can find it) and slice it yourself. For that you need a good knife, it must be sharp.
Spooky, Tilly: I've just finished my Sunday lunch - smoked salmon sandwiches and Chablis. Wssn't the shredded mess you describe, but impossible to get a whole slice. This was Tesco's by the way. The one I like fro Sainsbury does come with separators.
Try putting the tines of a fork in one part and gently rolling salmon round the fork, it usually works
The above tip is good, also let it sit a minute or two after you've wrestled the pack open - that seems to help.
^ how do you resist scoffing it once it's on the fork?

Thanks for the tips so, far. This was a Sainsbury's Taste the Difference pack but there was separating film is there.

How did that comma get there?^
Who says I do!

// but there was separating film is there //

If that was the case I don't see the problem tbh.
Best breakfast ever. Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and warm blinis. Never eat smoked salmon straight out of the fridge. Just take out what you are going to consume and let it reach room temperature. It is easy then to separate the slices if they are not interleaved with plastic. Glass of "poo" is rather nice with that Christmas Day, or a good cup of coffee on St Ives Quay in the summer.

Ael, I can eat smoked salmon until it comes out of my ears. I have to be very strict with myself to share it out equally.
Question Author
'no separating film', it should say. I'm multi-tasking here. :-)
I actually gave up on it years ago. Could never keep it lit.

Tobacco's easier, Douglas.
I buy Sainsbury's Harbour Smokehouse salmon. The Taste the Difference one has a strong herby taste which I don't like.
Question Author
I'll get it from Waitrose next time.
Share it out equally ?
Right, all round Tilly's for supper tonight then.

We ate it for breakfast with scrambled duck eggs, OG. Sorry.
