After 50 years of having a clean license, I'm pretty sure yesterday I've been done, coming out of a 40mph to a 30mph I was still doing about 34/35 when I saw the police camera van on side of road. Had not been in the car long after a walk and was a bit hot and bothered. DAM! :( Now got to wait and see. This will hurt if so!!

Do the speed awareness course and avoid the points.
They will probably offer you a Speed Awareness course for £75 instead of giving you points on your licence.
you are probably ok, your speedo will over read by 5% at least and they'll not do you for 32 so I reckon you'll be fine. Anyway take the awareness course if you do get done.
You could have been going slower than you thought.
Your speedo over reads - everyone's does.
Strange that. I would also be seriously irked if I put up a black after 52years driving and never been caught. A driving record ruined. :-(
I would take the course to avoid the points but still feel I failed.
That's really bad luck, teacake. You could argue that it's cynical of the police to put the detector van just after the 30 sign but on the other hand you know you should have spotted it!
Sorry...but it's not a case of "should have spotted it", it's more a case of "shouldn't have been exceeding the limit"...

Yep the 30mph only lasts about 1/4 mile then goes back to 40mph, the van was just on the border of were the 40mph starts again have done that road many times and know they park there, Got ya!!

Ok gb I knew there would be one to have a go. :)
teacake i still reckon they'll let you off, you'll be fine, get back and tell us. The NIP has to arrive within 2 weeks.
is your licence clean because you're always inside the limit, or because of luck? If it's luck, then it seldom lasts for ever. But you might be okay if it was only 34 and if your speedo over-reads.

jno Always been a carful driver from a teenager, never had an accident or been involved in one, and always kept within the speed limit, now I know that's hard to believe, but true. It is always possible that at some time over 50 years I've may have gone 2//3/4 mph over the limit without knowing, or being distracted, as like now. but never a foot to the floor person, I will just suck this up as a reminder to carry on being carful, if it happens.

There was no one behind me, or in front on that 1/4 mile stretch, at the time, so if they had a bad day for customers?? :)
shouldn't have been speeding!
I don’t believe anyone who says they’ve never exceeded the speed limit albeit inadvertently. You’ll probably be ok teacake. Hope so.
Who can say what momentarily distracts us when driving?
So much going on inside and out of the car that it's easy to make a slight mistake, easy as falling off a horse you could say.

Judge not lest ye be judged and eschew casting stones. :-P
//I don’t believe anyone who says they’ve never exceeded the speed limit albeit inadvertently//

Me neither naomi. That's why I wrote 52 years of driving and never been caught out. :-)
Douglas not a case of casting stones - I don't believe she has never gone over the speed limit before in 50 years of driving - she has just never been caught!
