Filling the NHS with foreign staff has implications for the countries of origin. They educate the people up only for us to poach them. What choice do they have?
I hate health tourism and i really share your concerns, but in this particular case it appears it is being funded by Pakistan so I dont see a problem.
In addition I suspect America is out both politically plus the rip off cost and since most of Europe speaks a load of languages the Pakistanis are not familiar with the UK is the obvious choice.
And its a good poke in the eye for the Taliban and the extremists we have let into this country for once.

Pakistan has excellent surgeons who could easily perform the operation, however her subsequent post operative care would be prolonged.
This of course is being pain dor by the Pakistan government, but will take up an NHS bed and NHS staff for a very long time.
She could be flown to the U.S.......a long distance......European country perhaps, but no big coup for countries who are barely involved with the politics of Afghanistan.
tamaris has a good point............is the NHS going to take up all waifs and strays OR only the selective ones with a certain amount of PR clout?
